Figure 5From: Activation and maturation of peripheral blood T cells in HIV-1-infected and HIV-1-uninfected adults in Burkina Faso: a cross-sectional studyT cell activation, CD4+T cell counts, and HIV-1 plasma viral load in the rural setting. Correlation between activation marker antibody binding capacity (ABC) of peripheral blood T cells and CD4+ T cell counts (panels A, C and E), or HIV-1 plasma viral load levels (panels B, D and F) in 61 treatment-naïve HIV-1 infected patients living in Nouna, rural Burkina Faso. ABC was derived from the median fluorescence intensity as described in the Methods section. Panel A shows the correlation between the ABC of CD4+CD95bright T cells and CD4+ T cell counts, and panel B between the ABC of CD4+CD95bright T cells and HIV-1 plasma viral load. Panel C depicts the correlation between the ABC of CD4+CD95dim T cells and CD4+ T cell counts, and panel D the correlation between the ABC of CD4+CD95dim T cells and HIV-1 plasma viral load. Panel E shows the correlation between the ABC of CD8+CD38+ T cells and CD4+ T cell counts, and panel F between the ABC of CD8+CD38+ T cells and HIV-1 plasma viral load. Correlations between variables were explored by calculation of Pearson's correlation coefficient (r) and the coefficient of determination (R2), which are indicated for each analysis.Back to article page
